Kanpur: Polling has begun in 16 districts of the third phase in Uttar Pradesh today. In the 2017 elections, out of the 13 seats in these two districts, the BJP had won nine, while the SP had won three and the Congress one. On the other hand, former IPS officer Aseem Arun is in the fray on a BJP ticket from the Kannauj seat. With this, there are 59 seats at stake in the third round, of which 44 seats are for the general category and 15 seats are reserved.
In the 2017 elections, 49 out of 59 seats went to the BJP. The Samajwadi Party, which had earlier won 37 seats in 2012, was reduced to 8 seats in 2017.
