The Karnataka government has decided to ban online gambling and betting. However, lottery and horse racing will not be banned in the state. The government will bring a bill in the Assembly for the same. Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister JC Madhu Swamy said that we are going to amendment the Karnataka Police Act to ban online gambling.

He also said that the move has been taken in compliance with the Karnataka High Court order. The Cabinet has also approved the amendments. It will be placed in the Assembly, he said. Where Madhu Swamy said the online game will be defined in the draft bill. This includes all kinds of gambling or betting. Electronic transfer of money paid or virtual currency will also be restricted for the same. At the same time, there will be a ban on token games in lieu of rupees.

However, it does not include money-betting in lotteries and horse races inside or outside the state. The amendment bill will be introduced in the House in the next session of the Assembly. The session begins in Karnataka on September 13. The state government had in July while hearing a petition seeking a ban on online betting, told the high court that the government had drafted a bill for the same. It defines all types of online betting and gambling and will be banned.
