BENGALURU: The Karnataka High Court has sought the state government to provide a detailed report on the 141 boys who have gone missing from state observation homes.

On Tuesday, a division bench led by Chief Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi and Justice Suraj Govindaraju issued a decision in response to a plea filed by social activist K.C. Rajanna, a Kolar resident.

In this case, the bench has given notices to the Women and Child Welfare Department and the Police Department, and the case has been adjourned until March 9. At the next hearing, the court has ordered the government to produce information on what steps have been taken to locate the missing 141 boys. The incident was uncovered thanks to an RTI request, and the petitioner took the matter to the High Court.

S. Umapathy, the petitioner's attorney, alleged that according to information obtained through RTI from the Woman and Child Welfare Department, 420 children have gone missing between 2015-16 and October 2021. Among them, 141 boys have yet to be identified. He said, the police have not even performed an investigation into the matter.
