Bangalore: The Karnataka hijab controversy has once again reached the Supreme Court. The petitioners have approached the apex court against the interim order of the Karnataka High Court. Earlier on Thursday, a three-judge bench of the Karnataka High Court had banned the wearing of religious dress in schools and colleges till further orders.

Let us tell you that the Basavaraj Bommai government of Karnataka has implemented section 133 of the Karnataka Education Act-1983 in the state. For this reason, now uniform has been made mandatory in all schools and colleges. Under this, the prescribed uniform will be worn in government schools and colleges, private schools can also decide a uniform of their own. At the same time, the Karnataka High Court has banned religious dress in educational institutions till Monday. Against this, some petitioners who are against the hijab ban have reached the top court. Congress youth wing chief BV Srinivas is also included in this. He has termed the order of the High Court as a violation of Article 25 of the Constitution. Petitioner Arif Jameel has also filed a petition in the top court.

Against this decision some students had filed petitions in the Karnataka High Court. These petitions were referred by a single bench to a larger bench headed by Chief Justice Rituraj Awasthi. While hearing the matter, the larger bench had given an interim order on Thursday. Chief Justice Rituraj Awasthi had said that we will order to open the institute. Everyone keep the peace. Till the time we are hearing the matter, students should not insist on wearing religious clothes.
