Bengaluru: In the Gram Panchayat elections in Karnataka, the main contest is between BJP, Congress and JDS. All the parties are claiming their respective victories, although the work of counting of votes for the election results is still going on. So far the results of 54041 seats have been declared, the results of the remaining seats will be released today. A total of 91339 seats are to be counted. The counting of votes for these elections began on Wednesday morning.
According to the State Election Commission, the results of 36781-gram panchayat posts are pending, which will be announced on Thursday. Out of 82616 seats in the trends so far, BJP is leading in 5340, Congress 3150 and JDS 1580. Independent candidates are leading in more than 600 seats. However, the result table is also changing rapidly. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the main opposition Congress claimed the victory of their supported candidates in the recent elections in about 5700-gram panchayats. These elections were not fought on the party symbol.
The ballot paper was used in two phases (22 and 27 December) in the 8,816 seats of 5728-gram panchayats in Karnataka Gram Panchayat elections and 78.58% voting was recorded during this period. There were 2,22,814 candidates in the fray.
