'Kerala Puraskarngal' Maiden awards presented by Governor

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan on March 21 distributed the maiden Kerala awards announced by the Kerala government on the model of Padma awards to distinguished personalities who have made comprehensive contributions to society in various fields

The prizes were presented during a gathering at the Raj Bhavan. Ashwathi V Nair, a well-known dancer and representative of author MT Vasudevan, accepted the Kerala Jyothi award on his behalf. The Kerala Prabha award was given to T Madhava Menon in recognition of his extensive contributions to civil service and scheduled caste welfare initiatives. 

The renowned writer Omchery NN Pillai's daughter Deepti Omchery Bhalla accepted the Kerala Prabha award on her father's behalf. The Kerala Sree award was given to Vaikom Vijayalakshmi, magician Gopinath Muthukad, and industrialist Kochouseph Chittilappilly.

Actor and Kerala Prabha Award recipient Mammootty, well-known sculptor and Kerala Sree Award winner Kanayi Kunhiraman, and science advocate MP Parameswaran did not attend the ceremony. Kanayi Kunhiraman has previously declined the honour in opposition to the treatment of his sculptures. Pinarayi Vijayan, the chief minister, presided over the event. The prize recipients were introduced by Chief Secretary VP Joy.
