Lakhbir Singh Rode, a Khalistani terrorist linked to the 1985 Air India jet Kanishka bombing, reportedly died in Pakistan from a heart attack, according to media sources.

Lakhbir Singh, aged 72, was known as the self-proclaimed leader of the International Sikh Youth Federation (ISYF) and was the nephew of the deceased Khalistani militant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. His demise was confirmed by his brother, former Akal Takht Jathedar Jasbir Singh Rode, with his cremation taking place in Pakistan yesterday. Having been designated as an 'individual terrorist' under the UA(P)A, Lakhbir Singh had sought refuge in Pakistan.

Recently, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) special court in Mohali directed the seizure of land owned by Lakhbir Singh in Punjab's Moga district. The court invoked Section 33(5) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, allowing the confiscation of both movable and immovable assets of a proclaimed offender involved in grave offenses.

Lakhbir Singh was implicated in collaborating with Pakistan-based ISI to destabilize peace within India. He was identified as the mastermind behind tiffin bomb operations, dismantled by Punjab Police in recent years. Furthermore, he played a pivotal role in the planning of the 2021 Ludhiana Court blast.
