Superhero films usually do not kill their main protagonists, as there are apprehensions that viewers may not like this kind of ending. The audience wants to see their heroes overcome their struggles and obstacles and eventually emerge victorious, and make the studio audience feel optimistic. However, Logan director James Mangold adopted a slightly different approach.

With Logan, James Mangold realized that he had a chance to do something different within the superhero genre. Mangold came to the conclusion that Hugh Jackman had only a few logical ways of ending Wolverine's character, with adamantium-clawed mutants being a major choice. Mangold says that killing Wolverine in that film was a logical decision.

Jackman, who tasted international stardom as Wolverine in his first Hollywood film "X-Men", starred in the film series from 2000 to 2018. The Australian actor holds the Guinness World Record as the "longest-lived action Marvel superhero" to play the role of Logan.
