Today is the birthday of the country's first woman Indian Police Service (IPS) officer and Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi. She was born on June 9, 1949, in Amritsar to a Punjabi family. Her father's name is Prakash Lal Peshawaria and her mother's name is Prem Lata. Her three sisters are Shashi, Rita and Anu. Kiran Bedi and her sister-in-law have been very fond of playing tennis since childhood. Kiran Bedi, who became famous as the 'Peshawar Sisters', and her sisters have also shown their skills in many national level competitions in tennis.

Kiran Bedi (IPS Officer) had her early education from Amritsar. During college, she was also associated with the NCC. In the year 1968, she completed her graduation (BA Honours in English) from Amritsar. In the same year, she has also awarded the NCC Cadet Award. In 1970, she also got a Masters degree in Political Science from Chandigarh. She has also been a lecturer at Khalsa College in Amritsar for some time. In 1972, she was elected as the country's first woman IPS officer.

Kiran Bedi remembers this because of this: Kiran Bedi Puducherry Lt. Governor has been in the news for a lot because of her commendable work. Apart from cracking down on crime against women in Delhi, improving the capital's traffic system, and contributing to social causes, she is well known for the remarkable reforms in the jail when she is given the responsibility of Tihar Jail. Kiran Bedi, who has been in the news worldwide for her reforms in Tihar Jail, has also been awarded the Raman Magsaysay Award in the year 1994.

Bedi also runs an institution called 'India Vision Foundation'. She has always been at the centre of the discussion because of the commendable work done by her as the Lieutenant-Governor of Puducherry. She is also very active on social media.
