Cape Town: The Indian team gained strength on the first day of the first test match against South Africa. After deciding to bat, Team India has scored 272 runs for the loss of three wickets till the end of the first day's play. Vice-captain KL Rahul is unbeaten on 122. Ajinkya Rahane is present at the crease after scoring 40 runs.

KL Rahul, 29, has achieved a special milestone during his brilliant innings at Centurion. He scored the 7th century of his Test career on the first day of the Boxing Day Test. Kl Rahul has become the second batsman to score the most runs on the first day of the Boxing Day Test. Virender Sehwag, who scored 195 against Australia in Melbourne in 2003, holds the Indian record for most runs scored on December 26 (day one of the Boxing Day Test). The list now includes KL Rahul, who is unbeaten on 122. He surpassed Mohammad Azharuddin. Azhar scored an unbeaten 103 against New Zealand in Wellington in 1998.

KL Rahul has another big record attached to his name. He has equaled Murali Vijay in terms of Indian opening batsmen scoring centuries on the first day of the tour outside Asia. Opener Murali Vijay returned unbeaten on 122 on the first day of the Trent Bridge Test against England in 2014.
