BANGALORE: The much-anticipated Lalbagh Flower Show 2024 is set to captivate visitors in Bengaluru this August. The Horticulture Department has meticulously planned to accommodate the expected 10 lakh attendees throughout the event, with special focus on managing crowds during weekends.

The show will feature a variety of engaging competitions, such as Ikebana (flower arranging), vegetable and fruit carving, Pushpa Bharati (flower displays), and Bonsai exhibitions, providing entertainment for all visitors.

A significant investment of Rs 2.5 crore has been made for the show’s decorations, with most of the flowers being cultivated in Lalbagh itself. Additional flower varieties have been sourced from Pune to enhance the display.

Ticket Information:

  • Weekdays: Rs 80 for adults, Rs 30 for children.
  • Weekends: Rs 100 for adults, Rs 30 for children.
  • School Children in Uniform: Free entry.
  • The show will be open daily from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. For those traveling via Namma Metro, paper tickets for the return journey from Lalbagh metro station will be available.

In preparation for the event, a strategic meeting involving the Horticulture Department, volunteers, and the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) was conducted to ensure the flower show remains environmentally friendly. The Bangalore Mirror reports that efforts are in place to maintain a waste-free environment.

For nearly ten years, the Horticulture Department has collaborated with Beautiful Bharat to oversee these events. A representative highlighted the need to address littering and plastic waste, particularly concerning NWPP bags which are often mistaken for cloth. The goal is to bridge this knowledge gap through vendor awareness initiatives.

New regulations require vendors to pay a refundable deposit of ₹5,000 and adhere to a contract that bans prohibited items and enforces cleanliness. Attendees are encouraged to bring reusable bags and bottles, as single-use paper bags and bottled water are banned at Lalbagh. Additionally, reusable steel plates will be provided for feeding police and staff, with prearranged accommodations.

Support for waste management during the show will be provided by organizations such as Beautiful Bharat, Saahas, and the Indian Ploggers Army.
