New Delhi: Union IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has said that the app economy of the country is growing and its aim is not only to leave China behind, but to be the first in the world in terms of mobile phone manufacturing. He also said that data privacy is the fundamental right of the consumer and law is needed to balance it.

Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad spoke at a webinar event of the late Thakur Prasad Century Memorial. He said that the government has recently banned 59 apps from China. PM Modi asked to make apps in the country and 200 new apps have been prepared. Pointing to the electronic manufacturing sector, he said that in 2014 the country had just 2 units, whereas now there are 260. The country has become the second largest hub in terms of mobile manufacturing from 5th position. I want to make it number one.

On data sovereignty, he said that data is an important strategic asset in today's world. Hence the question arises as to who is the owner of the data. I favor that the data of Indians is from India. In any case we will not tolerate data imperialism. He also said that if some people want to weaken the country, then they cannot use Freedom of Speech or Freedom of Privacy as a shield.
