The Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday extended the ongoing lockdown due to Coronavirus epidemic till 30 April. Meanwhile, the total number of people infected with Covid-19 in the country has increased to 5,837. Speaking to reporters after the meeting of the National Coordination Committee, Imran said that the ongoing sanctions have helped to prevent the spread of coronavirus. In view of this, it has been decided that the lockdown will continue till the end of the month. However, he said that some major industries will be opened to start business activities.

Imran said that we feared that 190 people would die by corona by Tuesday. So far we have seen 96 deaths. The spread of the virus is only 30% of our estimates. Industry Minister Hammad Azhar said that many sectors and industries including construction, agriculture, chemical manufacturing, e-commerce, paper, fertilizer and mines are being allowed to open. Export can also be triggered.

It is being said that the Advisor on Security Muhammad Yusuf said that the airport is being gradually started to bring more than 35,000 stranded Pakistanis. Khan said that the lockdown would be relaxed to allow industries to work. But, if someone acts against the prescribed procedures, action will also be taken against him. He also announced an ordinance to give strict punishment to the culprits and curb smugglers and hoarders.
