Patna: NDA leaders in Bihar are concerned about the low voter turnout in the first phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Both the BJP and JDU have become active and have alerted their workers to this issue. They have instructed their workers to intensify campaigning at the grassroots level.
JDU has asked booth committees and Panchayat Samitis to reach out to the people and urge them to cast their votes. Similarly, BJP has assigned the task of door-to-door canvassing to their workers, starting from booth chiefs.
The opposition party RJD has also brainstormed ways to increase the voting percentage. In the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections, held on Friday, voting took place in four seats of Bihar: Nawada, Jamui, Aurangabad, and Gaya. The voter turnout in this phase was only 48.23 percent, which is five percent lower than the previous Lok Sabha elections in 2019.
This low voter turnout has posed challenges for political parties and may impact the election results. Consequently, all parties have started emphasizing the importance of maximum voter turnout in the upcoming phases of the Lok Sabha elections.
Following the low voter turnout, JDU reviewed the situation and emphasized the need to intensify their public awareness campaign. They have tasked their workers at the booth and Panchayat levels with increasing awareness about voting.
Similarly, Bihar BJP has instructed its lower units to be more proactive. Booth chiefs and Panna chiefs have been asked to increase their public outreach efforts. Party leaders have been instructed to appeal to the people to cast their votes during the election campaign.
In a meeting at the state office of the opposition party RJD, it was decided to increase the participation of the poor, laborers, and people belonging to extremely backward and backward classes. After the meeting, the state RJD chief spokesperson, Shakti Singh Yadav, stated that efforts will be intensified to increase voter turnout at the party level.
