NEW DELHI: The Government is all set to introduce The Energy Conservation (Amendment) Bill, 2022 in the Lok Sabha todoay, August3.

Power Minister RK Singh will move the bill on energy conservation,  whille Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan will table a Bill to amend the Central Universities Act, 2009 .

The Center has recognised new opportunities to increase the penetration of renewable energy in light of the expanding demand for energy and shifting global environment and has proposed a number of changes to the Energy Conservation Act, 2001. The objective will be to increase demand for renewable energy in end-use industries including manufacturing, construction, transportation, etc.

Amendments have been developed by the Ministry of Power following stakeholder consultation. The plan specifies a minimum percentage of renewable energy in the total amount of energy consumed by industrial units or any other institution.
The suggested changes would make it easier for India's carbon market to grow and set minimum requirements for the use of renewable energy, either directly or indirectly through the grid. This will aid in lowering carbon emissions into the atmosphere and energy consumption based on fossil fuels.

India is at the forefront of combating climate change and has made a commitment to an ambitious Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) that calls for a reduction in emission intensity of 33–35% from 2005 levels by 2030.

Apart from this government business reports of the standing committee of External Affairs on the subject of Welfare of Indian Diaspora: Policies, schemes will also be presented. Reports of the Standing committee on Finance, Housing &  urban affairs will also be tabled.
