Madhya Pradesh creates history, team reaches Ranji Trophy final after 23 years

Bhopal: The MadhyaPradesh team has made it to the final of the Ranji Trophy 2021-22. In the semi-final match played at Alur in Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh defeated Bengal by 174 runs. MP has made it to the final for the first time since the 1998-99 season. That season, under the captaincy of Chandrakant Pandit, the MP team was the runner-up. Chandrakant Pandit is currently the head coach of Madhya Pradesh. In the final match, Madhya Pradesh will take on Mumbai. Mumbai have made it to the final on the basis of the first innings lead against UP.

Bengal needed 350 runs in the fourth innings to win. But the entire Bengal team was bowled out for 175 on the fifth day of the game. For Bengal, apart from captain Abhimanyu Easwaran, no batsman could stay at the crease. Easwaran scored 78 runs, which included 7 fours. Kumar Karthikeya was the highest wicket taker for Madhya Pradesh with 5 wickets. At the same time, Gaurav Yadav got 3 wickets, while Saaransh Jain got 2 wickets. 

In this match, batting first after winning the toss, MP scored 341 runs in the first innings. Wicketkeeper-batsman Himanshu Mantri scored 165 and Akshat Raghuvanshi scored 63 runs. In reply, Bengal could only score 273 runs in their first innings, due to which Madhya Pradesh got a significant lead of 68 runs on the basis of the innings. In the first innings for Bengal, Shahbaz Ahmed scored 116 and Manoj Tiwary scored 102 runs. After this, MP scored 281 runs in his second innings. Due to which Bengal got a target of 350 runs. For Madhya Pradesh, captain Aditya Srivastava scored 82 and Rajat Patidar scored 79. For Bengal, in the second innings, Shahbaz Ahmed took five wickets and Pradipta Pramanik took four wickets.
