CHENNAI: The Madras High Court on Wednesday ordered the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the murder of K.N. Ramajayam, the brother of Tamil Nadu Minister for Municipal Administration, Urban & Water Supply and strong DMK leader K.N. Nehru, in 2012.

The court made its decision after the CBI, which has been investigating the case since 2017, failed to make any progress.

The Special Investigation Team must include Thoothukudi Superintendent of Police S. Jeyakumar, Ariyalur Deputy Superintendent of Police Madan, and CBI Deputy Superintendent of Police R. Ravi, according to Justice V. Bharathidasan of the Madras High Court.

The judge further told the CBI Director that Deputy SP R. Ravi of the CBI should be deputised in the team and that he should not be transferred without the court's permission. Justice Bharatidasan also ordered that the Special Investigation Team led by S. Jeyakumar be monitored by Director General of Police Mohammed Shakeel Akthar of the Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID), the elite division of the Tamil Nadu Police.
