Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray came to Facebook Live last Sunday and spoke to the public. In the meantime, he said, "In a move to restore Maratha reservation, the Centre should remove the 50 percent limit on the reservation." Addressing the people of the state in a live webcast, the Chief Minister said, "Without such exemption, states will not be able to prepare their list of OBCs (OBCs) and provide reservation. When I met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June in Delhi, I told him that since the Supreme Court has canceled the Maratha reservation and ruled that states have no right to provide reservations, the Central Government should take initiative to relax the 50 percent reservation limit." Now that the Centre has given the states the right to prepare the OBC list, it should relax the 50 percent limit on the reservation. At the same time, Thackeray said, "I hope the Prime Minister will do it.''

Recently Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut had said, "Unless a maximum limit of 50 percent is relaxed on the reservation, the Constitutional Amendment allowing states to prepare their Obc list will not help and Maratha reservation cannot be restored.''

At the same time, he had also told reporters that he discussed the issue and the developments in Parliament with the Chief Minister. State PWD Minister Ashok Chavan will hold a digital meeting to inform leaders of all political parties about the status of the Maratha reservation issue. When the issue of the constitutional amendment comes to Parliament, there will be a demand for a discussion.
