Mumbai: CM Uddhav Thackeray is sure to be elected unopposed in the Maharashtra Legislative Council (MLC) election to be held on May 21 in Maharashtra. Congress has agreed to field only one candidate. Now CM Thackeray will be able to become MLC without elections. The Congress will withdraw the name of its second candidate Rajkishore Modi.

In fact, Maharashtra Congress state unit president Bala Saheb Thorat on Saturday had increased the headache of CM Uddhav Thackeray by announcing the second candidate for the MLC election. He wrote in his tweet that, "Congress party is dying for two seats in MLC and I am happy to announce the candidature of Rajesh Rathore and Rajkishore alias Papa Modi. Congratulations and best wishes to both of you!"

The opposition party BJP had announced the names of its four candidates on Friday. Thackeray is not a member of any house of the state legislature. In addition to Thackeray, the Shiv Sena has nominated Neelam Gore, the current Vice President of the Legislative Council. Shashikant Shinde and Amol Mitkari are the candidates from the NCP. Ranjit Singh Mohite Patil, Gopichand Padalkar, Praveen Datke and Ajit Gopchhede have been nominated by the BJP.
