The Maharashtra education department is planning to conduct Class X and  XII  board exams in the last week of April or the first week of May, School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad said on Thursday.

Looking the significance of the current academic year for the ninth and eleventh standard students, the Department of Education is giving main concern to their studies and examination system so that they do not suffer any academic loss in next year's board exams.  The Minister clarified that discussions are underway with teachers, headmasters and education experts in this regard. Meanwhile, at least 3.00 lakh students from classes IX to XII have been attending schools in 25 districts of the state since November 23, the minister said, adding that the figure has increased to five lakh as per a review taken last week.

Notably,  classes IX to XII have started smoothly in some districts of Maharashtra. The number of students in these classes are also increasing day by day. It is a matter of great satisfaction that students and teachers have not been infected by the corona outbreak. However, as it is not easy for children to follow social distancing and health guidelines in school, we have not yet taken any action to start classes I to VIII, said Gaikwad.
