Major Disruption at AIIMS Delhi Amid Nationwide Doctors' Strike

New Delhi: AIIMS Delhi has experienced a drastic decline in services due to an ongoing doctors' strike sparked by the tragic assault and death of a female trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The strike has led to a staggering 90% drop in outpatient departments (OPDs), admissions, and surgeries at the prestigious institution.

An official report from Dr. Nirupam Madaan, Medical Superintendent of AIIMS, confirms that while emergency services and ICUs continue to operate normally, other essential services have been severely impacted. OPDs, admissions, operation theatres, radiological investigations, and nuclear medicine services have seen reductions of over 90%, with laboratory services also facing an 80% decline.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has called for a nationwide strike in response to the shocking incident at RG Kar Medical College. Doctors from AIIMS Delhi participated in a protest march on the campus on Saturday, holding signs and chanting for justice.

Dr. Asokan, National President of the IMA, emphasized the need for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene in this grave matter. The IMA plans to formally request the Prime Minister's involvement to address the situation.

In reaction to the widespread outrage, the IMA has ordered a 24-hour withdrawal of services by all modern medicine doctors across the country. While emergency and casualty services will remain operational, OPDs and elective surgeries will be suspended from 6 am on Saturday until 6 am on Sunday, August 18, 2024.

The strike follows the brutal rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College on August 9, which has triggered protests and calls for justice from the medical community nationwide.
