Maldivian President and Australian High Commissioner wishes India on 'R-Day'

Male [Maldives], Jan 26 (NT): Maldivian President Mohamed Nasheed on Friday tweeted to extend his wishes India on the occasion of 69-Republic Day.

Nasheed also lauded for a cohesive voice in safeguarding Indian Ocean security.

"Happy Indian Republic Day! Indian Ocean countries must speak with one voice when it comes to safeguarding Indian Ocean security," he tweeted.

Meanwhile Australian High Commissioner to India Harinder Sidhu on Friday also extended wishes India on the occasion of its 69-Republic Day.

Sidhu shared a video on official twitter handle with a congratulatory message for both India and Australia as today is also an Australia day.

"Australia and India have ties back dating the 18th century and continues to share a number of common connections. The 26th of January is a day of celebration and significance for both our countries."

"Today is the day where India is celebrating the 69th anniversary of its constitution coming into effect. It's also Australia Day, a day for acknowledging and celebrating the contribution of every Australian, no matter where our personal stories began. We come together to celebrate our nations, to celebrate our past and our future. Here is wishing you a very happy Australia Day and a happy Republic Day," she added. (NT)
