Mamata government seeks army help for cyclone in Bengal

Kolkata: The Mamata Banerjee government of West Bengal has sought the army's help for the immediate restoration of essential infrastructure and services that were destroyed by cyclone Amphan. In a statement issued by the state government, it has been told that the army has been called to help in relief work.

According to the statement, teams of NDRF and SDRF are already deployed in the state. Along with the state government, railways, ports and private sector have also requested to supply teams and equipment. Mamata government says that the work of restoration of drinking water and drainage infrastructure is going on a war footing. It said that generators are being installed where necessary for power supply. More than a hundred teams of several departments and bodies are working to cut down fallen trees.

It said that the state's electricity department has been asked to use maximum human resources so that power can be restored in the storm affected areas at the earliest. Mamata government says that due to lockdown, there is some difficulty in restoration work. However, the police has been kept on high alert.
