Kolkata: West Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee has said that the National Citizenship Register (NRC) and the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) are two sides of the same coin and the TMC will continue to oppose it till the end. Addressing a rally on Sunhati Day, Mamta Banerjee said that the Central Government has brought CAB and NRC bill to divert attention from the economic downturn.

He said that if you give citizenship to all the community, then I will support it, but if you favor on the basis of religion, then I will oppose it and fight against it. Raising the issue of women's safety, CM Mamata Banerjee said that there can be no compromise with the safety of women. He also raised the issue of burning the rape victim alive in Unnao.

CM Mamta said that there are some incidents which we cannot support. There is a need to strengthen the law. Within 10 days after coming to power, we filed a charge sheet in the Dinajpur case. Banerjee said, "We will not abuse atrocities on women." The incidents of Hyderabad and Unnao shook me. Everyone knows about the Unnao incident, even after this the victim was burnt.
