On Wednesday, in view of the increasing cases of corona in Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced to extend the lockdown in the state till 31 July. The government has taken this decision to check the virus status. Local trains and metro services will also not be allowed to be resumed during this period. All schools - colleges and other educational institutions will also be closed. Chief Minister announced this after an all-party meeting at the state secretariat Navan on the Corona crisis. Mamata told reporters that the Bengal government has decided to increase the lockdown to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection.

He told that the areas which have already been given exemption will continue. The Chief Minister said that the lockdown in the Containment Zone will be strictly followed. He said that Covid-19 situation is continuously deteriorating across the country including Bengal. In view of this, this decision has been taken. However, different parties had different opinions at the meeting. Not all were unanimous about increasing the lockdown.

CPI (M) State Secretary Suryakant Mishra said that the committee made in connection with the lockdown should be decided. Earlier the Bengal government had announced to increase the lockdown till 30 June. The state government had already announced to keep all educational institutions closed till 31 July.
