Maharashtra: The constitutional validity of the reservation of Maratha society in government jobs and college admissions was going to be decided in the Supreme Court today but it has been postponed. According to recently received information, now this decision has been postponed till 8 March. The counsel for the Government of Maharashtra, Kapil Sibal has demanded a hearing in the open court from March 1, but it has been turned down by the court. Recently the Supreme Court has made it clear that the hearing will start from March 8 and the hearing has to be completed by March 18.

It has also been clarified that if the courts open in the meantime, the hearing will be in open court or virtual court. In the case of hearing in open court or in virtual court, the lawyers of Maharashtra government had made a demand from the court in the previous hearing. In this demand, it was said that the hearing should be held in the open court only when the court opens. Maratha society has been demanding reservation for many years. The Maratha society has gone to the Supreme Court to file a petition about this. In this petition a demand has been written to remove the interim ban imposed by the court on reservation.

The counsel for the Government of Maharashtra, Kapil Sibal had said during the hearing earlier, 'The necessary documents of the case are with different lawyers and due to Corona, all the papers are not being presented together. Therefore, when the court opens, it should be heard in the open court.'
