Dhaka: On Thursday, a massive fire engulfed hundreds of shops in Mohammadpur market, the capital of Bangladesh, reducing them to ashes. Firefighters battled the flames for approximately six hours before successfully extinguishing them. Thankfully, there were no reported casualties. The probable cause of the fire, as per reports, was a short circuit. Shahjahan Sikdar, a fire service officer, confirmed the absence of casualties in the incident.

A shop owner expressed his distress, saying, "My family depended on this shop. What should I do now? Everything has turned to ashes." According to Anwarul Islam, the warehouse inspector at the Fire Service and Civil Defense Headquarters (Media Cell), the fire broke out at approximately 3:43 pm, as reported by local media. Bangladesh Air Force, Army, Navy, BGB, and police provided assistance to the firefighting personnel.

Fires are a recurrent occurrence in the densely populated capital of Bangladesh, which has experienced a construction boom in recent years, often lacking adequate safety measures. Reports of fires and explosions in Dhaka resulting from faulty gas cylinders, air conditioners, and electrical wiring are not uncommon. In April of this year, a massive fire erupted in a shopping complex in Dhaka, injuring several firefighters and destroying around 5,000 shops, according to the news agency.

It's worth noting that on April 4, a fire broke out in Dhaka's Bangabazar textile market at 6:10 am, requiring the involvement of 47 firefighting units to bring it under control. The fire raged for six hours before being successfully contained. Despite many shop owners attempting to salvage their goods, the rapid spread of the fire thwarted their efforts.
