Medvedev made it to the second round with an easy win at the French Open

Russia's second seed Danil Medvedev advanced to the second round of the men's singles French Open tennis tournament with a comfortable victory. US Open champion Medvedev also defeated Argentina's Fakundo Bagnis 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 in straight sets. This was Medvedev's first victory after undergoing hernia surgery about two months ago. Coming back from surgery last week, he suffered a first-round loss at the Geneva Open. Medvedev, who suffered four consecutive defeats in the first round of the French Open, has managed to reach the quarter-finals at Roland Garros last year.

World number two Daniil Medvedev has called the recent news about Ukraine "very disturbing" that has led to the Wimbledon organizers barring him and other Russian players from playing in the prestigious tournament. US Open champion Medvedev is due to speak at the Geneva Open. He is going to return to the ATP Tour after 5 weeks due to a hernia operation. Medvedev was asked whether Russia was keeping a close eye on Ukraine's attack when he was not playing, he said, "I had some time to look at what was happening." Yes, it is very disturbing.

Medvedev had earlier said after Russia's attack on Ukraine in February that he wanted peace. Most Olympic Games have prohibited the Russian team and players from participating in international competitions, but tennis has allowed players to participate at an individual level, not representative of their country. Wimbledon, however, has barred Russian players from participating in the tournament in line with the British government's decision three weeks ago. Medvedev said he is looking forward to playing at Wimbledon, starting June 27, if circumstances change. He said, 'If I can play, I am going to be happy to play at Wimbledon. I love this tournament.
