New Delhi: In the Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam, now Mehul Choksi's difficulties seem to be increasing. The citizenship of Antigua and Barbuda received under Mehul Choksi's Caribbean Nation's Investment Program (CIP) is under threat. However, Mehul Choksi has gone to court in this case. Earlier, Britain had approved the extradition of Mehul Choksi's nephew fugitive Nirav Modi.

Mehul Choksi has approached the court regarding citizenship. It is being told that the hearing on his application will go on till 2027. Lionel Hurst, the Chief of Staff of the Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister's Office, said that the matter will take about 7 years to be resolved. Now the matter will go to the Court of Appeals, then the Privy Council is the last court in London. That is, Mehul Choksi's return to India before 2027 is difficult. A number of Indian agencies including the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Enforcement Directorate (ED) is engaged to bring him back to India.

On reports of the abolition of Mehul Choksi's citizenship, his lawyer Vijay Aggarwal has said that my client Mehul Choksi has clarified that he is a citizen of Antigua, his citizenship has not been revoked.
