New Delhi: Government Launched Sukanya Samriddhi Yojna in the year 2015 for the welfare of girl child. It attracted the encourage Rs. 19,183 crore from more than 1.26 crore account. According to this scheme, the minimum deposit that had to be made was Rs. 1000 and now it is slashed to Rs. 250 every year. This account can be opened on the name of girl child until she turns 10 in any post office branch and designated public sector banks.

The Sukanya Samriddhi Yojna was launched in 2015 and 1.26 crore account was opened to take benefit of this scheme. This scheme is launched to helps parents of girl children build a capital for the future education and marriage of their daughter. This scheme offers a higher interest rate and tax benefits to parents and helps parents to save to fund education and marriage of their girl child. The interest rate is revised every quarter and for the July-September quarter, the rate has been fixed to 8.1 per cent.

According to this scheme, the account will be valid till 21 years from the date of opening of the account and after it can be paid to the girl child who is the account holder. The deposit can be made up to 14 years and after that account holder will earn interest as per applicable rates.
