The Ministry Coal has established a watch cell to help its officials and their family members who have tested positive for coronavirus and are in-home quarantine or admitted to hospitals for treatment. The ministry stated that a large number of officials from the Coal Ministry have tested positive for Covid-19 as the country is in the throes of a devastating second wave of the pandemic. The Covid Surveillance Cell, set up by the Coal Ministry, will also help family members of officials found positive for the deadly virus.

In an official memorandum, the Ministry of Coal said: “It has been observed that a large number of officers/officials from the Ministry of Coal have tested positive for Covid-19 in recent times and are in home quarantine / admitted in hospitals for treatment. “

In this regard, the competent authority has decided to create a “Covid Monitoring Cell ” within the ministry to assist officers / officials working in the ministry and their family members, including CIL staff, of NLC India Ltd, CCO and CMPFO to obtain logistical support and any other assistance as possible.

According to Sanjeeb Bhattacharya, who is one of the nodal officers of the Covid watch cell, more than 30 officials from the Ministry of Coal have tested positive for Covid-19 since April 8. Logistical support will be provided by Coal India.

Meanwhile, India recorded a record 3,49,691 new coronavirus infections in one day, bringing the total of Covid-19 cases to 1,69,60,172, while active cases crossed the 26 lakh mark, according to ministry data Union Health updates Sunday. The death toll rose to 19,23,311 with a record 2,767 new deaths per day, according to the latest data updated.
