The children in Chennai and Madurai are reportedly developing Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C) and as a wakeup call the Coimbatore health department has voluntarily came forward to look for any MIS existence in the COVID-19 recovered children. It is a rare disorder that associates with fever and inflammations in Children as a result of Covid-19 exposure. Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH), Dean in-charge P Kalidas said that the staff has already started to review the medical condition of children cured of Covid-19.

With the report from Chennai and Madurai the Institute Of Child Health, Chennai has directed Coimbatore health officials to ensure early diagnosis and treatment. If any child identified with MIS-C, they shall be treated again and their parents will be informed of the condition, Dean said.  MIS-C is a serious, dangerous syndrome that must be diagnosed at an early stage. In the district, till October 10 939 boys and 835 girls, comprising of 1,774 children less than 14 years has recovered from the deadly virus.

All the 1774 children will be contacted using the line list and the current situation will be reviewed. If any post-Covid symptom is found they will be taken to the hospital. The MIS-C syndrome occurs in children under 14 years and exhibits symptoms similar to that of Covid-19. The symptoms of the condition might include fever, vomiting, rashes on the body, congested eyes, and sudden shock.
