Mizoram government allows churches to open with 50 percent capacity

Aizawl: The Mizoram government has issued new COVID-19 guidelines. The new guidelines will come into effect from October 3 and will remain in force in all parts of the state till October 16. The new order allowed reopening of churches in the worst COVID-19 affected AMC area and in other parts of the state with 50 per cent seating capacity only on Sundays and Saturdays. The order said that schools and other higher educational institutions in the AMC area will remain closed but training institutes in the state capital will be allowed to reopen with 50 per cent seating capacity.

Permission to reopen public parks is now also in the AMC area, with 50 participants subject to permission from the local level task force where such parks are located. The order stated that social or public gatherings are now permitted in the AMC area with 50 per cent seating capacity or 50 attendees, whichever is less. The number of people attending funerals and weddings in the AMC area has also been increased from 30 to 50. It said that the number of people visiting the picnic resort has been increased from 25 to 50, while the number of participants has been increased to 20 for indoor games and 50 for outdoor sports and 50 for gymnasiums in the AMC area, it said.

The government has also given approval to organize tournaments without spectators in the AMC area. All commercial shops, market places, hawker stalls, hotels, restaurants are allowed to open with 50% seating capacity. It has been said in the order that all government offices in the state will now open with full staff. Night curfew will continue at all district headquarters between 8 pm and 4 am. The order said that in areas outside the AMC limits, the Deputy Commissioners will issue different guidelines depending on the COVID-19 status of their districts or areas.
