In Mizoram, preparations are underway for the counting of votes for the state's lone Lok Sabha seat, with over 2,000 personnel set to be deployed. Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Madhup Vyas announced on Monday that a robust three-tier security arrangement has been established across all 13 counting centers in the state.

Aizawl, the state capital, will have three counting centers, while each of the other district headquarters will have one center each. In total, there will be 40 counting halls equipped with 379 counting tables. Each table will be managed by a counting supervisor, a counting agent, and a micro observer to ensure accuracy and transparency.

Counting Schedule and Process

The vote counting will commence at 8 AM on Tuesday, beginning with postal ballots followed by the votes cast in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). The process will be thorough, with five rounds of counting in five assembly segments, four rounds in 15 segments, three rounds in 18 segments, and two rounds in two segments.

To ensure the public receives timely updates on the election results, media centers have been set up at all counting venues.

Voter Turnout and Candidates

In the Lok Sabha polls held on April 19, 56.6% of the 8.56 lakh registered voters in Mizoram cast their ballots. The election featured six candidates, but the primary contest is anticipated to be among the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM), the Mizo National Front (MNF), and the Congress.

Key Candidates and Parties

The ruling ZPM has nominated newcomer Richard Vanlalhmangaiha.

The main opposition MNF has fielded K Vanlalvena, a current Rajya Sabha member.

The Congress has put forward former state home secretary Lalbiakzam, who is also new to politics.
