Chennai: Terming the Public Security Act (PSA) as a cruel law, the DMK has targeted the central government for extending the custody of former Kashmiri chief ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti, including other Kashmiri leaders. DMK has demanded his immediate release.

The central government filed a case against both former chief ministers on February 6 under this strict law (PSA). A few hours before this, his six-month precautionary detention period was about to end. Attacking the central government, Tamil Nadu's main opposition party has accused the Public Security Act (PSA) of being a cruel law. He has strongly condemned the extension of the custody of Kashmiri leaders.

DMK President MK Stalin alleged that such harsh laws can be enforced in any state and against any leader. He said that such a scenario is also not true for the relations between the country and the center-state. He said that detaining leaders who believe in the integrity of India is against human rights and personal freedom and it is like defying people's trust in the Constitution and democracy.
