Mumbai: Raj Thackeray's party Maharashtra Navnirman Sena has decided that on May 3, his party workers across Maharashtra will perform maha aarti at local temples. Earlier on Monday, the Maharashtra government issued an order saying that it would be mandatory to take permission to use loudspeakers. Maharashtra Navnirman Sena leader Nitin Sardesai said MNS workers will perform maha aarti at local temples across the state on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya on May 3. The maha aarti will be done from the loudspeaker.

On Monday, Maharashtra Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil said that in a significant step, the Maha Vikas Aghadi government has made police permission mandatory for the use of loudspeakers at all religious places in the state. He said strict action will be taken against those who use loudspeakers in religious places or religious events without permission. The Maharashtra Home Minister said that a detailed notification on the proposal will be issued by the Home Department in the next two days along with the guidelines.

It may be recalled that the Maha Vikas Aghadi government's decision comes amid a controversy over the use of loudspeakers in mosques last week by MNS president Raj Thackeray. Raj Thackeray had issued an 'ultimatum' to the state government till May 3 to ensure that loudspeakers of all mosques are "silenced" or "removed". Failing to do so, his party workers will play Hanuman Chalisa on loudspeakers outside mosques in retaliation. Let us know that the Maharashtra DGP had an important meeting today (Tuesday) with top officials of other districts. The Maharashtra Police will take action against those against whom a case related to any kind of religious dispute has been registered.
