Islamabad: A mob of about 5,000 Muslims set fire to a police station and four posts in Charsadda district of Pakistan on Sunday night (November 28, 2021). More than 30 cars were also set on fire. Officials said a mentally retarded person is accused of insulting the Quran. The enraged mob was demanding the police to hand over the blasphemy accused when they did not hand him over and set the police station and outposts on fire. A Pakistani journalist posted a video of the incident on social media. The video shows the police station burning.

Local official Asif Khan said no officer was killed in the attack. The attack forced police to call in troops to restore order in Charsadda, a district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. He said the authorities foiled an attempt by the mob to beat up the prisoner. Police have taken him to another district. Khan further said that the suspect was caught a day earlier. They have not even made the name of the person public because the authorities are still investigating the matter. The authorities initially protested, but fled after thousands of protesters attacked the police station. The official said the situation in Charsadda remained normal on Monday (November 29, 2021).

Last month, a disabled man named Malang Jan was burnt to death by a Muslim mob from Charsadda district of Pakistan after a minor dispute.
