Patna: Good news for the people of Bihar. The new bridge over river Ganga parallel to Digha (JP) bridge will now be constructed on 6 lanes, not 4 lanes. The decision was taken in view of the future traffic pressure in a meeting between the Secretary, Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Road Construction of the State. After which approval has been given for the construction of the proposed 6-lane bridge parallel to JP Setu.

After constructing the proposed 6-lane bridge parallel to the same JP Bridge, there will be 4 major bridges with a width of 28 lanes on the River Ganga at a distance of 41 km in the capital Patna. State Road Construction Minister Nitin Naveen informed that the sanction order has been changed on the DPR constructed by Bihar Pradesh Bridge Construction Corporation for construction of a new 4 lane bridge parallel to JP Setu. It will now be made in 6 lanes. For this, ultra-high-performance concrete of advanced technology will be used to build a span of more than 100 meters. This will also reduce the cost of the project and enable engineers from Bihar to know the new technology.

It may be recalled that two more bridges are being constructed at both the eastern western ends of Patna city. In which there is 6 lane Kutcha Dargah Bidupur Bridge at the eastern end and 6 lane Sherpur Dighwara Bridge at the western end. In addition, 6 lane Kutcha Dargah Bidupur Bridge, 13 km east of Gandhi Setu, is being constructed. On the other hand, 51 per cent of the 19.76 km long bridge has been constructed. It has been set for completion by January 2024.
