"Mohammed Shami is the Best Bowler": Ian Bishop

NEW DELHI: Former West Indies cricketer Ian Bishop lauded Mohammed Shami, an Indian fast bowler, for his outstanding performance in the IPL 2023 and hailed his capacity to capture wickets during the powerplay overs.

Bishop emphasised the importance of early forays in comparison to wickets taken towards the end of an innings, highlighting Shami's efficiency in obtaining significant early dismissals.

He also compared Shami's bowling action to that of fellow Indian pacemen Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Siraj, highlighting Shami's capacity to deliver a difficult line and length with a touch of movement consistently.

Bishop praised Shami for helping to stop the opposition's run chase and for being an exceptional bowler, especially in recent years.

Former West Indies cricketer Ian Bishop told ESPNCricinfo, "He's collected 15 powerplay wickets. It reveals the relative worth of wickets in the front and back of the field. And while Bhuvi (Bhuvaneshwar Kumar), who took four wickets in the final over without any fault of his own, was fantastic, Shami bowls a test length and a test line and length extremely well, which is similar to what Siraj has been able to do this season when playing at his best. "Tight on the off-stump, at a good pace, with a little of that away movement from that fantastic seam position. Compared to many guys, it seems to bustle off the wicket more. With due respect, he broke the back of that run pursuit up front, and he bowls exceptionally well overall, especially over the past three or four seasons.
