Mumbai: Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Iqbal Chahal recently made a statement saying, "About 30 lakh people with both doses of COVID-19 vaccine will be allowed to travel in local trains. In fact, last Sunday alone, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has made an announcement under which those who have taken both doses of COVID-19 vaccine can avail Mumbai local train services from August 15.

The BMC Commissioner said, "We have about 19 lakh people in Mumbai, some people have been completely vaccinated. The local train not only runs in BMC but also in Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) areas where there are about 12 lakh people who have been completely vaccinated. Therefore, about 30 lakh people will be allowed to travel on local trains. They have been completely vaccinated.''

At the same time, he further said, "After announcing the reopening of the local train, we had a meeting with the Railways and before that, we had a meeting last Thursday. We are trying to get photo passes for 30 lakh people for long lines without any hassle, photo pass will have their vaccination certificate and their photo which will help them avail the local train. At the same time, he also said, "I request the citizen of Mumbai that your fully immunized certificate is your immune certificate. In the future, certificates may be required if malls reopen and until the covid is finished. If you don't have a vaccine certificate, you won't be able to travel by local train.''

He further said, "Our goal is to completely vaccinate the people of Mumbai from 15th November to 30th November this year." Earlier on Sunday, CM Uddhav Thackeray had announced that Mumbai local train services will start from August 15 for those who have taken both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
