Mumbai: A magistrate court in Mumbai has summoned former Congress President Rahul Gandhi. The court has summoned Rahul Gandhi after taking cognisance of BJP activist Mahesh Srisremal's plea. Rahul Gandhi, MP from Wayanad, had given the slogan of "The Watchman is a Thief" at a rally, after which the BJP leader took the court's stand.

BJP executive member  Mahesh said, "It is wrong to call PM Narendra Modi a thief. What will people think of our country? Mahesh said he was saddened when Rahul Gandhi tweeted "Commander in Theif" criticising PM Modi. Mahesh has also produced several CDs and newspapers of Rahul Gandhi's speech as documents in the court. In an application filed in the court, BJP activist Mahesh said that PM Modi has been described as 'Commander in Theif' during live TV streaming.

Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi's speech was also telecasted in several news channels and newspapers. Hence, the petitioner wants to file a defamation suit. Hearing the case, the court had said that the complainant, as a member of the party, was liable to file an appeal in the court.
