Mumbai faces major waterlogging issues due to heavy deluge

On Monday morning, thunder, accompanied by heavy rainfall, caused a cease to the metro city. there were cases of excessive water logging and the caused the local trains to cease for about a day. At the Anandilal Podar Marg, near Marine Lines, a part of the road collapsed due to the heavy rainfall that the city suffered. 

The rainstorm reportedly led to massive waterlogging issues in certain areas, including East Matunga, Sion, Colaba, Chembur East and Santacruz. 90 mm of rainfall has been reportedly recorded at the Colaba Observatory; while, 231 mm of rainfall has been recorded at the Santacruz observatory in the previous 24 hours. According to the reports released by the Central Railways, trains on all the 3 lines including Mainline, Harbour, and Trans-harbour ran 7-10 minutes late. While trains between the Thane and Byculla stations ran late by 15-20 minutes.

According to a recent incident, the wall of a building which was under construction collapsed and ended up damaging 7 cars on the Vidyalankar road in Wadala’s Antop Hill. In the western part of India, the deluge led to severe destruction in the various parts of south Gujarat, majorly in Valsad, Surat and Navsari districts, causing major waterlogging issues. According to reports, five people died when struck by lightning in West Bengal and one person drowned after the heavy cloudburst that the state suffered.
