Patna: Brijesh Thakur, who is languishing in jail in the Muzaffarpur Balika Grih case, has been given another 2 weeks time to file a response to the CBI. The high court in the case has fixed October 1 as the next date for the hearing. Delhi's Saket court had sentenced Brijesh Thakur to life imprisonment in connection with the sexual assault of more than 40 girls at a girls' home in Muzaffarpur district in Bihar.

In the Delhi High Court, Brijesh Thakur had filed an appeal to quash the lower court's January 20 and February 11 verdict. The high court had issued a notice to the CBI asking them to file their replies. In a hearing on Tuesday, the agency has sought an additional 2 weeks time to file its reply. Earlier, in the January 20 judgement, the lower court had convicted Brijesh Thakur in the case and was sentenced to life imprisonment on February 11.

However, the High Court has directed the CBI to file a status report or response on the next date. The High Court has also sought a response from the CBI on Brajesh Thakur's plea seeking a stay on a fine of Rs 32.20 lakh imposed on him by the lower court. Brijesh Thakur has said that he is unable to pay the amount as the investigating agencies have frozen all his accounts.
