Riyadh: During a significant visit to Addis Ababa, the Secretary-General of the Muslim World League (MWL), Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, engaged in constructive discussions with Ethiopian leaders, including President Sahle-Work Zewde and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. The visit emphasized the MWL's commitment to fostering peace, harmony, and understanding across diverse societies.

President Zewde warmly welcomed Al-Issa and his delegation, acknowledging the League's commendable efforts and expressing gratitude for its humanitarian initiatives. She underscored the significance of peaceful coexistence within nations marked by religious, ethnic, and cultural diversity, as well as unity among various segments of society.

With a focus on the role of the Muslim community in Ethiopia, President Zewde praised its contributions to societal well-being, emphasizing its commitment to service, development, and enlightenment.

Al-Issa reciprocated the warm reception and gratitude, appreciating President Zewde's positive sentiments towards the MWL. He stated, "I was most pleased with Her Excellency's fair words about Ethiopian Muslims, and their contributions to the development, enlightenment, and prosperity of Ethiopia."

Al-Issa's discussions with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed extended to pressing matters of countering extremist ideologies through enhanced religious, intellectual, and community awareness. Both leaders emphasized the crucial role of religious figures in addressing and curbing extremist ideas.

A historic announcement also emerged during the visit: the establishment of the Negus Mosque in Ethiopia, dedicated to honoring the legacy of Abyssinian Muslim King Najashi. This remarkable initiative received acclaim from the Ethiopian government and the Islamic Council, underlining the MWL's dedication to preserving and celebrating the rich historical narrative of the region.
