SHILLONG: Bharatiya Janata Party national president J P Nadda on February 15 released the manifesto for the forthcoming Meghalaya Assembly elections in state capital Shillong.

Detailing on the manifesto titled 'eMpowered Meghalaya', Nadda said the 'M' in its name signifies "Modi for Meghalaya". The BJP national president claimed that the Northeast state's potential, which is rich in culture and heritage, has not yet been properly tapped and utilised in his remarks during the unveiling of the party's election pledges.He said that because there is so much room for development, there is a lot that has to be done in the state.
Nadda noted that corruption is a significant crisis that has hampered Meghalaya's growth. He continued by saying that by providing effective governance, the BJP hopes to contribute to Meghalaya being free of corruption. He said that the only way to build a powerful BJP government in Meghalaya.

"We need to think large and raise the concept of Mega Meghalaya. If we are to bring Meghalaya to its promised state, speed, scale, and expertise all need to work together, according to the BJP national president. He emphasised the necessity of the state apparatus in enacting these changes, but he also emphasised the need for public approval of the leadership.

"We have pledged in our platform to implement the 7th Pay Commission in Meghalaya and issue wages on schedule to guarantee that this occurs," Nadda said. By adding an additional Rs 2,000 to the already given Rs 6,000 annually, the BJP will increase the benefit under the Center's flagship "Kisan Samman Nidhi" scheme. "We committed to implementing the 'Ka Phan Nonglait' scheme for our moms, sisters, and daughters in order to promote women's empowerment. It bears the name of the first Khasi Hills liberation warrior.

Nadda added that the recipients of the "Ujjawala" scheme will also receive 2 free LPG cylinders each year in addition to a bond of Rs 50,000 given to the family upon the birth of a girl child and free education from KG to PG. He said that several industrial units will be built in the state to create job opportunities, and special economic zones will be created to empower young people.

If the BJP wins the election, Nadda said, a plan to give landless farmers an annual grant of Rs 3,000 and fishermen an annual grant of Rs 6,000 will also be put into effect. "We will also introduce a support scheme under which financial help of Rs 24,000 will be offered annually in order to empower widows and single moms," he added. Nadda went on to say that the pension for senior citizens will also be doubled and that women would also receive income support.
A Special Task Force would also be established, under the direction of a retired Supreme Court judge, to look into every case of corruption in the state, according to Nadda. He continued by saying that the BJP would create a "peaceful, developed, and prosperous" state in Meghalaya.

Derek O'Brien, a Trinamool Congress MP, announced the party's election manifesto earlier on Tuesday. If the party wins the election in Meghalaya, all of its election pledges will be fulfilled within 100 days.
Meghalaya will go to elections on February 27 along with Nagaland. The counting of votes, along with those of Tripura, will be done on March 2.
