Recently The State Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS) has verified an epidemic of African Swine Fever (ASF) in many districts of Nagaland.

The North Eastern Regional Disease Diagnostics Laboratory, Khanapara, Guwahati, confirmed the findings using RTPCR (Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction) tests on samples submitted from Longjongkong and Satier villages in Mokokchung District and Kuzatu Village in Wazeho Block in Phek District. Following that, the veterinary service issued a warning to everybody who deals with pigs or pork to be cautious and vigilant.

People are being encouraged to report any unexpected pig death to the "nearest veterinary institute and help the veterinary and forest departments for sero-surveillance, control, containment, and eradication as per the National Action Plan," according to the National Action Plan. A one-kilometer radius from the disease's epicentre (affected villages) has been designated as an Infected Zone (IZ), and a 10-kilometer radius has been designated as a Surveillance Zone.
