Dehradun: a campaign to retrieve bodies of foreign climbers buried in snow in Nandadevi was launched this morning. The Air Force helicopter from Pithoragarh was flagged off by the ITBP team. The required material will also be delivered by helicopter from Nandadevi base camp. The operation is underway under the leadership of ITBP's second command officer and Everest conqueror Ratan Singh Sonnal.

Rescue operations continue

According to the information, the team leader Ratan Singh is a resident Dharchula. This is the joint operation of the Army, ITBP and SDRF to evacuate the bodies of the climbers who were buried in the snow from the arrival of Avalanche in Nanda Devi East. The bodies of the missing mountaineers will be retrieved from the Nanda Devi peak after the helicopter is brought to Nanissaini Airbase.

DNA samples will also be taken

With this, the reports of the deceased will be taken up in the runway. Thereafter, the bodies will be sent to Sushila Tiwari Medical College to protect from decay. DNA samples of the bodies will also be taken. A letter has also been sent to the embassies of the concerned countries on behalf of the district administration to hand over the bodies of the foreign mountaineers after the evacuation.
