Mumbai: Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Narayan Rane has joined BJP with his two sons Nilesh and Nitesh. With this, his party Swabhiman Paksha has also merged with BJP in the presence of CM Devendra Fadnavis in Kankavali. There was talk of Narayan Rane joining BJP for quite some time, but the matter was getting postponed due to Shiv Sena's opposition.
Actually Rane left Shiv Sena and went to Congress and since then there was a figure of thirty-six between Shiv Sena and Narayan Rane. Rane later also quit the Congress and formed his own party, the Swabhiman Paksha. However, both the father and son had to face defeat in the last Lok Sabha elections and assembly elections. Narayan Rane himself lost the election from Kudal seat. Since then he was fighting for his political existence.
Both Shiv Sena and BJP are contesting elections in alliance, hence Shiv Sena did not like Rane to join BJP. Even after the alliance, Shiv Sena has fielded Satish Sawant from Narayan Rane's son Nitesh from Kanakavali seat. Nitesh Rane is the BJP's authorized candidate on this seat. On the other hand, Narayan Rane has been sent to the Rajya Sabha by his quota.
