The nation on Friday remembered Jawaharlal Nehru on his 52nd death anniversary with preasident Pranab Mukherjee, prime minister Narendra Modi and other leaders paying tributes to the country's first Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Modi tweet that, "Remembering our first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on his death anniversary".

On the micro-blogging site twitter, The Indian National Congress also paid tribute to the nation's first prime minister.

"We pay tribute to India's first & longest serving Prime Minister, Pt Nehru on his Death Anniversary," the party said in a tweet.

It added, "Pt Nehru, was a man of vision, who taught a young & independent India to be self confident & self-reliant".

Born on 14 November, 1889, Nehru was one of the prominent nationalist leaders of the freedom struggle in the 20th century and the central figure of Independent India as its first Prime Minister till his demise on May 27, 1964.
