A team of three members from the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) is currently visiting the troubled area of Sandeshkhali in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district. Scheduled for Thursday morning, the visit aims to engage with locals and address their concerns. This follows recent visits by the National Commission for Women and the National Commission for Scheduled Castes.

"We will be meeting with the residents there to thoroughly investigate their grievances," stated Ananta Nayak, acting chairperson of NCST, during a briefing with journalists.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) issued a notice on Wednesday to the state government and police authorities concerning the ongoing violence and reported human rights abuses in the region.

In response to the severity of the situation, NHRC authorities have taken additional steps, deciding to send a team to conduct an on-site investigation to verify reports of human rights violations in Sandeshkhali, located in the North 24 Parganas district, according to official sources.

Numerous women in Sandeshkhali have accused Shajahan Sheikh, a prominent figure in the Trinamool Congress, and his supporters of forcibly grabbing land and subjecting them to sexual assault.

Shajahan has been evading authorities since January 5 when a group allegedly linked to him attacked officials from the Enforcement Directorate during a raid related to a ration scam.
